What is a Pre-Apprenticeship?

A Pre-Apprenticeship program is a concentrated training plan that prepares a student for a specific career path. The program MUST combine classroom training with work based learning experiences, all of which MUST relate very specifically to the career path that is chosen.

Why should I choose to a Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

Although Pre-Apprenticeship programs are very deliberate when it comes to designing a practical training experience that prepares a student for an entry level position immediately, this path is not exclusive to those who plan to join the workforce right after graduation. Most of our pre-apprenticeship programs involve receiving college credit for the work that is completed while also obtaining industry recognized credentials that are valuable across all industries and in all locations. We understand that plans change. For this reason we have designed these programs to benefit all participants, no matter what path is chosen after graduation.

How will a Pre-Apprenticeship help me in high school?

Aside from giving any participant a head start on their plans after graduation, all of our pre-apprenticeship programs allow for participants to earn two of the required graduation seals. Students will also get high school credit for these courses. The type of credit earned is unique to the program and the school district. Contact us to find out more!

Where does a Pre-Apprenticeship program take place?

The answer to this question is unique to each program taking place. In many cases, courses that are a part of this program take place at Northwest State Community College. That said, there are programs that take place within your high schools or at an employer’s site in your area. Each program is unique, and in many cases changes from year to year depending on the needs of the school district and our employer partners.

How much does a Pre-Apprenticeship cost to attend?

The only cost that a student will need to pay is the cost of transportation to and from the program each day. In some unique cases, the school may provide transportation. However, in most instances, this responsibility falls to the student.

When does a Pre-Apprenticeship take place?

The courses and/or work experiences will begin and end with each school year and will take place only within normal school hours. All of our current programs take place each day of the week that school is in session.

Am I still able to take part in after school activities?

Absolutely! The last thing that we want is for a student to have to choose between one of our programs and a passion that they have. Our goal is to provide a path towards career exploration within school hours. We have no intentions of disruption a normal school day or forcing a student to miss out on any school activities.

What happens if I miss a day of school?

We understand that life happens. Just like you would when you miss a day of school you would simply contact your instructor or employer at the time and let them know that you will not be able to make it in.

Will I be required to attend courses or work outside of school hours?

All required program activities are scheduled to happen within normal school hours. At no point does the program require a student to attend night courses or work overtime on the weekend. Any arrangement to do so is the individuals business completely and would not be treated as part of the program.
